nothing much..

Seriously lack of updates here but its because nothing much has happened.. Same old..same old..

Work is good. Im used to the things there already. Currently in Business Center because some staff is on leave so im the 'relief' person. Then, gonna head back to operator.
I can say im pretty lucky this time because i managed to escape being at front desk and conceirge which means i dont have to stand 8 freaking hours a day in heels..hehe. I get to sit super comfortably, conquer the whole place and look like a secretary at the oh-so-nice and cold Business Center..haha.. And the supervisor in the operator department extended my time in Operator department for another week which means i cut one week at the Housekeeping department which ill be entering later. so yeay!!!! pretty lucky eh??

Nothing much to complain about this hotel. In fact, i think its a pretty great place. Staff are nice and they actually teach and let u be a part of their work. So, u get pretty good hands on experience. =D

So, i guess most of my Front Office training was in the Business Center. Im the person you come to if u wanna photocopy, fax, surf the internet, wifi, print, make a local/international call, confirm flight details, buy a souvenier from the hotel, buy stamps..etc..etc.. I think i mentiones that before but nvm...
The Business Center here can get really really super busy at times. Like busy-till-u-wanna-cry..haha.. especially if guests come in all at one time..sigh.. Plus theres only one person running the whole place. Funny, because when i use to stay in hotels last time, all Business Centers look pretty dead to me. I never saw anyone there..haha.. The complete opposite here.

And its also interesting to meet people from all over the world everyday. Even more interesting to hear them speak! Sometimes theyre English is not even English at all. And worse if they speak it with their super heavy country slang.. Seriously dunno what the hell they want and trust me, sometimes sign language is involved.

Business Center aso gets alot of business man from international countries coming in to use the computer or their laptop to complete their work. And what i can say is that some of them (not all) are seriously lonely and pathetic who are far away from home and theyve got nothing better to do. So, they will start having friendly chats and im stuck hearing stories of where theyre from, which country they are going next, how many kids they have (if any), what are their kids doing, etc..etc.. And im thinking in my head, ur kid may be the minister of whatever country and i still dont care. >< hehe..
But then, the chat goes overboard when they start asking for ur handphone numbers la, asking if ur free whether u could 'teman' them out to shops la and even asking if u wanna have dinner with them..super eeewww!!!! ridiculous innit?? (like we have nothing better to do.... sigh.)

oh! and i seriously dunno why people dont seem to notice thats theres a glass door at the B.Centre which you-have-to-open-it-in-order-to-come-in!!! hahaha!! And its not like its a completely clear glass door. Theres a red tape taped across the door to show people that ITS A DOOR!! But, somehow, they seem to like to walk right through it. It might be painful to them but its painfully funny to me since i get to witness the whole scenario, their facial changes right when they bump the door. I try really hard not to blurt a laugh at their face..hehe evil but true.

slightly less than 6 more weeks to go!! yipee!!

Pretty cool that u got a week off housekeeping - i dont see what u can garner frm that dept except to fold towels the correct way..that being said..is there even a correct way to fold a towel? LOL.

A point about business travelers chatting you up - you're right. They are just lonely. Ive met some business folks here who practically live out of their luggage. A week here, another week there...it's quite pityful, really. But what to do - it's what they do for a living. Be kind to them.. :) Instead of going ewwww on going out with them for drinks, this is a chance for u to promote the hotel's bar - tell them "Hey, if u go down to Joe at the bar - tell him I sent u there - he's got this great drink concoction that would take that stress away/u'd enjoy! And Joe's a great conversationalist too"

Of course before that happens, give the heads-up to Joe. And let it be known it's ur idea. It will drive business in the bar division :) See...cross-promotion :) Not only will they feel special, but they will feel that they are taken care of.

This msg comes to u FREE from ur Marketing graduate sister.
